We were sitting in Zia’s Restaurant, we hadn’t even started eating. I wasn’t feeling all that great myself but I could tell there was something wrong with kyle. He wasn’t eating his food sitting right in front of him. And he wasn’t picking at it designing cool buildings out of it like a normal eight year old does. He was just staring. Blank face and looking like he was ready to explode. When he threw up I knew we needed to leave right away.

That’s when I took Kyle and left. I brought him to The St. Louis Children’s Hospital. My husband and our five kids stayed behind to finish their meals. (there was no way we were just going to leave that uneaten food there) It was much worse than I ever would have thought. Kyle had to get his appendix removed. What a terrible birthday party I thought while sitting in the emergency room.

But the worst part by far was the argument I got into with the hospital and the insurance. The insurance refused to pay because I allowed the surgery to happen. The hospital demanded a payment right then, which I didn’t have. I found that I could afford to pay right then by taking out a car title loan. I looked online and found there are vehicle title loans in St. Louis, Missouri.

Thank goodness we all got through this alive. It’s so hard to see my son in so much pain. I’m glad it’s over.
